Bolens was founded in 1850. In 1919, they introduced the first power-driven garden
tractor. Bolens was purchased by the FMC Corporation after World War II. In 1947, they introduced the first compact
tractor. Garden Way purchased Bolens in 1988, and Troy-Bilt later on. Garden Way went bankrupt in 2001, and MTD
purchased the assets and trademarks.
- 2003 - Bolens is reintroduced. Through an exclusive agreement with Lowe's Home Improvement
Stores, MTD is selling the Yard Machines L&G as Bolens. They are also sold in Canada.
